“Save Historical Traditions” weeks Karnataka Ithihas Academy involved.

Mangalore: A week (Aug. 16 to 22) of historical traditions / upsurge activities in Mangalore, Buntwal and Karkala (Udupi) taluks has been drawn up by academic circles in city and several other places (indicated in an invitation) only to create popular awareness towards neglected historical matters and sites, to renovate them and to maintain them as heritage materials.

One of the programmes was held today at 1.30 pm (afternoon) at the University College, presided over by Principal, Dr Laxminarayana Bhat. The main speaker, Tukaram Pujari of SVS College, Buntwal (History Deptt) dealt with history of Karkala in his address, and urged people to maintain the “heritage” objects and the surroundings. He advised all to save temples, forts, old manuscripts and edicts if any, in a historical place of their region. He has created a museum of his own, containing old coins and objects of interest. He referred to laces like. Sulthan Battery and St. Aloysius chapel etc, to explain the need to preserve historical sites even for tourists, and also for future generations.

Yakshagana critic Prof. Prabhakar Joshi, organizer Dr. Ananthraj Indra and Prof. Laxminarayana Bhat were present on the dais. Prof Meenakshi welcomed. Kumaraswami conducted the proceedings.
