67th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrated at Neharu Maidan, Mangaluru

Mangaluru : 67th Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated at the Nehru Maidan Mangalore on November 1, Tuesday on behalf of the DK District Administration. DK District in-charge Minister V Sunil Kumar who is also the minister for Kannada and Culture hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour.

In his address Sunil Kumar said, “It is our duty to remember all those who fought for the unification of Karnataka. Our government has come up with various schemes for the development of this state. Viveka school scheme is implemented to provide fundamental infrastructure to Kannada schools. Under this project approval is given to build 275 classrooms at a cost of Rs 39.30 crore. Under Amritshale scheme Rs 27 crore is released for the comprehensive development of 27 government schools. Smart classes have begun in the 27 schools that were selected in the primary state by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat.

“Under the border area development scheme, our government has released Rs 21 crore grant in the past five years. Rs 50 lac grant is given for founding Kaiyyara Kinhanna Rai memorial under the same scheme.

“Rs 30 lac grant is approved for research book on Rashtrakavi Manjeshwar Govind Pai. The last book was printed in 1995. Now the demand for his research articles are more. So reprinting will be done soon.

“Under Swami Vivekananda youth self-help group, self-employment and financial activities will be encouraged. Under this two self-help groups will be formed under each gram panchayat and every group will be given Rs one lac grant and bank loan upto five lac. Already 45 self-help groups are formed in Dakshina Kannada.

“Under Sanjivini campaign poor and weak women are identified and they are given financial assistance under gram panchayat limits. Programme is organized to give these groups training on production and skill development.

“There is huge demand for theatre in Dakshina Kannada district. Due to various reasons, the district theatre project has taken back seat. Now a revised plan is prepared at a cost of Rs 14 crore,” he said.

As many as 34 achievers and 20 institutions received the district level Rajyotsava award.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Umanath Kotian and U T Khader, MLCs Prathap Simha Nayak and Harish Kumar, in-charge deputy commissioner Kumar, mayor Jayanand, former mayor Premananda Shetty and others were present.
