Mangaluru: Former MLA JR Lobo alleged that due to the negligence of police, the autocrickshaw blast occurred in Mangaluru. He took the government to task, for the police department not keeping an eye on accused Mohammed Shariq, who was booked under the Unlawful Activities Act earlier.

“Had the government and police been vigilant, such untoward incidents could have been avoided. The government failed to wake up after instances of terror graffiti reported in Mangaluru,” the Congress leader told the media, here on Tuesday.

Alleging total deterioration of administrative mechanisms and law and order in the state, Lobo said that there is a lack of trust among the communities in society. “People have started looking at different faiths with suspicion, though criminal activity is not restricted to any particular religion.

The government too is looking at one religion with suspicion,” he alleged. Appealing to people to not pay heed to any rumours related to the blast incident, Lobo said that efforts are being made by the BJP, to create a rift between communities, by spreading false information through social media.

“Dakshina Kannada district could not attract investments. Elected representatives from the district too have failed to enhance the image of the district, and thereby attract investments in the service sector, as well as IT, hospitality, tourism and education sectors, in the recently held investors meet.

The district continues to witness instances of youth being assaulted for talking to friends from other faiths. The government should ban organisations that are disrupting communal harmony,” he added.
