Bantwal : A girl from Bantwal has bagged the Shourya award for showing immense courage in saving her friend’s life.
Four years ago when Nithesh (9) was bitten by a snake at his school grounds, Pratiksha (9) showed immense bravery and presence of mind by putting her life at risk and saving her classmates life. It was reported that the class four students were taught on first aid as part of their curriculum.
The first aid for snake bite has detailed information as tightening of a tourniquet above the wound, removing blood from the spot by using a clean knife, and pacifying the patient and giving him courage and confidence, before taking him to a doctor.
Pratiksha started sucking blood from the spot and spitting it out on the ground. After continuing with this act for a few minutes, she led Nithesh to the headmaster’s room and then the boy was taken to the hospital.
