Bangalore: The High Court of Karnataka on Friday dismissed a petition filed by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa seeking to quash two private complaints filed against him in the Special Lokayukta court by Sirajin Basha, on denotification of certain parcels of land.
Yeddyurappa challenged an order of the single judge of the High Court, who had dismissed his plea on May 21. A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice D H Waghela disregarded Yeddyurappa’s argument that Sirajin had sought the sanction of the Governor for prosecution once, but filed five complaints.
N Shankarappa, who was removed from his post as chairperson of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission by the Congress government, has approached the High Court of Karnataka, challenging the move.
On November 25, Deputy Secretary of the Social Welfare Department Chikkegowda issued an order removing Shankarappa and Commission members M S Helavar, M Tungappa Bangera, A Venkatachalapathy and B S Rajashekar from their posts.
Hearing the petitioners Shankarappa, Bangera, Venkatachalapathy and Rajashekar on Friday, Justice A S Bopanna issued notice to the government.
He has directed that any appointment to the Commission would be subject to the final disposal of the case. The petitioners contended that the deputy secretary had no powers to issue the order, and that he had done so without reason and only under political pressure.
