Childrens’ Konkani Talent Show inaugurated in city

Mangalore : The various academies like Yakshagana, Beary Sahitya, Kannada Sahitya and Tulu Sahitya academies are working very hard for the development to preserve their culture and State Government is extending its support for these programmes in funding, said District in Charge Minister Krishna Palemar.
He was speaking at the Childrens’ Konkani Talent Show organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy held at Town Hall on August 16, Monday. He also said that the government was sanctioning the fund of Rs 20 lakhs to the academies, but this time it has sanctioned Rs 40 lakhs out of which Rs 5 lakhs is been given to the fellowship.

The programmes conducted by Konkani Sahitya academy is becoming famous through out the state. The Konkani community people of Coastal region are more culture oriented compared to other, he said.

The academies must not only work for the development of the language, but also try to give importance for Konkani literature. Academy must work for the development of language and culture and also simultaneously adopt the culture of other community.

The academies must also conduct eco friendly programmes like cleanliness, planting of saplings and other programmes to protect the nature and environment, he added.

Kundapur Narayan Kharvi, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy presided over the function. Addressing the gathering he said that, at present Children at school do not opt for Konkani language as the subject.
Further every people of Konkani community must try to speak and preach Konkani to their children.

Dr Mukund Prabhu, senior researcher, Philomena Lobo, principal of District Edication and Training Centre and B R Bhat, general manager of Corporation Bank were the chief guests.

C L Shenoy, trustee of Venkataramana Temple, Fr Wilson D’Souza, director of Catholic Board of Education and Umesh Mallya, Headmaster of Canara High School were the guest of honour.

Mangalpady Namadev Shenoy, member convener and S H Shivarudrappa, registrar of the academy were present on the occasion.
