Mangaluru : City police on Monday opened fire on a suspect who allegedly attacked a police constable from Mangaluru Rural station while he was being taken for a spot mahazar in Kambala village.
City police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said Mista alias Mohammed Mushtaakq, 26, was taken to the village for recovery of vehicle and weapons used in an offence. He tried to escape after assaulting cops. Sub-inspector Vinayaka Bhavikatti fired once in the air before firing on the leg of the arrested. Mista assaulted police constable Saddam Hussain, who suffered injuries.
Mista is an accused in a case of attempt to murder, which took place on August 19. He had allegedly assaulted Ramlan Asif after the latter asked him to return the mobile phone of his nephew. In a fit of rage, Mista attacked Ramlan with a knife. When Ramlan raised alarm, neighbours gathered. Mista issued a threat to him and fled. The seriously injured Ramlan is undergoing treatment in hospital.
