Clean start to PU exams in Dakshina Kannada

II-PUC-ExamMangalore: More than 11,000 students wrote the Political Science and Statistics papers in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in the second year Pre University examination that commenced here on Wednesday. No cases of malpractice were reported in both the districts.

While 6,662 students wrote the Political Science paper, 5,237 students wrote the Statistics paper in as many as 49 examination centres. As many as 10 special squads have been formed to check malpractices during the examination that will go on till March 27.

Students were seen exchanging their views on the paper they had attempted when after coming out of the examination halls at the St. Agnes PU College. “There was no change in the pattern of questions in Political Science. I have done well,” said S. Sandeep, a student of St. Raymond College, Vamajoor. Rita D’Souza, a student of St. Agnes College, said she had no problem answering questions in Statistics.

In all, 34,185 students from the district will be writing the Pre University examination. This will be the first time students from the Science stream will be writing the examinations based on the National Core Curriculum.

There are 11,964 students in the Science stream. As many as 7,008 students are in the Arts steam, while 15,213 students are appearing in the Commerce stream.

Principals of the Pre University Colleges have been named as the chairmen of the three-member special squad that includes two lecturers. In addition, there will be sitting squads comprising of two lecturers. There will be question paper custodians at every examination centre, a press release said.

In Udupi district, 4,833 students appeared for the examinations on Wednesday. S.S. Shindha, Deputy Director of Pre-University Board, said that 70 of the total 2,758 students did not appear for the Political Science examinations.

Only 13 of the 2,158 students failed to appear for the Statistics paper.

There are 15,680 students in Second Year PUC, out of which 8,210 are girls, while 7,470 are boys.
