Mangalore: The striking job seekers from over displaced families (PDF) who were on strike for 24 days at the gates of DC office seeking justice from MRPL/ONGC were assured proper jobs and appointment letters within 3 weeks hence, during a meeting convened by DK district administration Police officers, MSEZ, MRPL and other companies and called off their agitation on March 25, Friday. DC Subodh Yadav and District Minister in charge Krishna Palemar, besides various MPs and Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, met the student representatives at the Circuit House (Kadri Hills) under tight security to draw curtain s on the job-hunting agitation.
The 186 job seekers who completed their technical training were informed that they would be appointed or given appointment letters with monthly salaries of Rs.10,000 if there were no immediate vacancies so long as unemployment prevails.
Meeting reporters on the occasion, Ports Minister Palemar told, after the meeting that 2317 acres of land had been earmarked for ISRPL, OMPL, MSEZ and MRPL expansion projects, and that one member each from a displaced family was assured of a job if he got qualified. About 1,661 job-seekers should have been recruited thus in 3 phases after the land acquisition.
598 had received monetary re-adjustments, and just 93 had secured jobs.
MRPL, the minister stated, had acquired 268 acres of land and in turn should have provided 183 jobs, but it recruited only 86 persons till now. OMPL gave only 3 posts. MSEZ employed only 4. ISPRL did not provide 58 jobs. The pending measures are quite many, though lands were acquired by each of them early.
MSEZ will start a Trust and pay monthly sums. R.N. Shetty, PDF leader warned of intense protest if jobs were not provided in 90 days.
