Mangalore: A protest rally, led by D.K. Ashok Kumar, an opposition corporators in MCC, was held in front of Mangalore City Corporation office to-day morning with several Congress corporators in attendance.
They shouted slogans against the Mayor and demanded full-scale redressal of citizens’ grievances.
In a press note released on the occasion, the senior corporators made it clear that the Mayor Rajni Dugganna was behaving like a dictator by granting approval her self even before any project works had been approved by the representatives’ house in a meeting.
He informed that the various grants for 2010-11 in relation to corporators’ projects are still pending with MCC.
No approval has been obtained for rural road tarring (macadamizing) works so far. No sanction has been done for any works relating to creation of infra-structure facilities, which means MCC does not create such facilities in 2010 until now.
All important traffic flowing roads in Mangalore city need temporary renovations by tarring and use of jelly stones and powder, but no action is taken by the commissioner. So far in the name of Monsoon fury.
Tax collections, and water duty amounts collected were diverted and misused for road concretization in certain areas only in city.
In the arrangements of spot billing for water charges, regulatory rules have been ignored by joining hands with private contractors thus losing crores of rupees to the MCC income.
Under such radical circumstances, there was no way of relief, but fight it out with the BJP Mayor and members, said the opposition corporators Shashidhar Hegde, Naveen D’Souza, ex-Mayor K. Ashraf, Harinath, K. Bhaskar present at the demonstration.
