Mangalore: The Dakshin Railway Employees Union (DREU), Palakkad Division will hold divisional conference at Town Hall on June 28, Thursday at 9.30 am.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on June 27, Wednesday Mathew Syriac P, Divisional Secretary, DREU, Palakkad said that MP P Karunakaran will inaugurate the event. Around 7150 employees from Palakkad Division from Panabur- Mangalore to Pothanur, Shornur to Nilambur Road and Palakkad Junction to Pollachi- Kinattukkadavu will participate in the event.
He also said that Central leaders of DREU working president R Elangovan, general secretary A Janakiraman, P V Ramdas, R G Pilla, K Ashokan and K Haridas and Southern Railway Division Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Mohan A Menon and Senior Divisional Personnel Officer Govinda Karanavar will address the audience at the conference. The leaders of sister organizations will also participate in the conference.
There will be a demonstration in the evening following by the public meeting at 5 pm in Mangalore Railway Station premises and Basudev Acharya M P will inaugurate the meeting, he said.
Speaking on the railway vacancies, he said that there are 2,80,000 vacancies in Indian Railways. The Railway Administration is not taking any measures to fill up these vacancies. Moreover posts are surrendered without adhering to any criterion.
He also said that Indian Railways is giving concessions to passengers belonging to various categories, the total amount of which is 15600 crores every year. The central government should give cross subsidy to Railways to meet this loss in revenue and save it from development stagnation.
This conference is being held to further strengthen the struggle against the measures to privatise Indian Railways as it is the most important public service organization and the exploitation of employees by forcing them to work for more than 2 and 24 hours in the name of essentially intermittent roster. This conference will analyse the past performance of the union and plan future agitation programme, he informed.
