Election Commission released revised voter turnout data

TransgendersMangaluru : The Election Commission has revised voter turnout data in Saturday’s elections to the Assembly wherein 78.42% of voters came to exercise their franchise in Dakshina Kannada and 78.85% in Udupi districts as against Saturday evening’s figures of 77.63 % and 78 %, respectively.

Voters turned up in large numbers compared to the 2013 Assembly as well as the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in both these districts. While 77.18 % voters had exercised their franchise in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in Dakshina Kannada, 76.13 % voters cast their votes in Udupi district.

Belthangady constituency in Dakshina Kannada, where five-term MLA K. Vasanth Bangera is testing his luck for the sixth time on Congress ticket, has witnessed maximum increase in voter turnout. While the constituency had witnessed 75.48 % voters exercising franchise in the 2013 Assembly polls, 76.75 % voters turned out in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. However, on Saturday, 81.5 % voters came out to vote in the 2018 Assembly polls, an increase of 6 % over the 2013 Assembly election.

Similarly, Kaup in Udupi district witnessed the highest increase in voter turnout vis-a-vis the 2013 Assembly and 2014 Lok Sabha polls. Saturday’s polls for the 2018 Assembly elections witnessed 78.51 % turnout as against 73.29 % in 2013 and 76.58 % in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
