Flood relief : CM announces Rs. 5 lakh to rebuild houses

yadyurappaMangaluru : Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said that every flood hit family will receive an interim relief of Rs 10,000.

Yediyurappa visited Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada to assess the flood damage on Monday. At Kakkavu, he told reporters, as per a report provided by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner, 321 families have been affected due to floods. Of them, nearly 75 per cent houses have been completely damaged and will have to be rebuilt. 45-50houses need only repairs. Each family will get Rs 10,000 as interim relief, he said.

Those who have lost their houses completely (about 275 houses), until they rebuild their homes, the government will pay them house rent allowance of Rs 5,000. They are entitled to this benefit, even if they stay with their relatives. In the first phase, the government will release Rs 1 lakh to every family for house repair.

Those houses that have been completely washed out will get Rs 5 lakh as compensation to rebuild houses. Deputy Commissioner will arrange for new sites 30X40 or 30X50, and also arrange for issue of documents. Road and bridge repair will be undertaken and compensation for agriculture loss will be made after an assessment, Chief Minister said.
