Mangaluru : Former MLA Mohiuddin Bawa has exuded confidence that the Congress high command would choose him as the candidate from Mangaluru North.

Addressing press persons on March 29, Wednesday, he said efforts were on to spread rumours against him to mislead people.

He claimed he had done much for the constituency during his term as MLA and said presently false news is spread to tarnish his image. He said upon his request, MLC B M Farooq had sanctioned Rs 1.60 crore for the development work in the constituency.

On rumours that cheques issued by him were bouncing, he said they were only rumours and said he would retire from politics if the allegations were proved.
