Sullia : Former SP Labhuram, and seven other police personnel have been served summons by a civil court in Sullia in connection with a case reported from Sullia in December 2011.
The summons comes in the backdrop of cases filed by some BJP leaders including PK Umesh, Sullia BJP chief, Prakash Hegde, Town Panchayt Vice President, ZP member Navin Kumar and his family members namely Leelavathi Rai Ubaradka, Roopa Rai, Sanjeevi Rai and Doddathota Guruprasad. The cases were filed against Additional SP Prabhaker, Sullia SI Ravi Kumar, Kadaba SI Paul Priya Kumar and Puttur SI Anand apart from the former SP.
The incident took place after some Hindu activists had caught a young pair of different communities at Jalsur and handed them over to the police. But when the police let them free, it agitated the activists who stoned the police station. The police had then to resort to lathi charge.
The petitioners had alleged that their homes were raided the same night and the family members assaulted by the cops.
