Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a Sea Walkway Point at the tourist jetty on the Malpe beach here on Wednesday.
The sea walkway point will be 500 m long and 8.5 m wide. It will be completed by the end of this year and will be yet another attraction on Malpe beach. This will be the first Sea Walkway in the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Madhwaraj said, that the walkway would attract not just tourists but also locals as it will make one feel as if they are walking on the sea. “The walkway would be a spot where people could relax and de-stress.” Works worth Rs. 1.12 crore had already been taken up on the beach. Efforts were being made to extend it to Padukere. The construction of the Malpe-Padukere bridge was helpful in this regard.
The Shantinagar beach at Padukere would be developed at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh. Development works would include development of roads, toilets and huts. This would benefit the local economy and the people, Mr. Madhwaraj said.
