Mangalore : The container traffic at NMPT got a shot in the arm when M/s Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd., has opted New Mangalore Port for exporting their containerized cargo of Liquid glucose in hdpe barrels. The cargo which is manufactured in their Plant situated in Shiggaon Taluk of Haveri District, Karnataka has been transported to NMPT in 25 Containers for shipment to Sudan in Africa in the vessel M.V. Tiger Mango which berthed at the Port on 12-3-2013.
The loading of the above consignment was completed and the vessel sailed out. The decision to move their export consignments through New Mangalore Port was taken after the recent visit of Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, MD and Shri Prashanth Pillai, DGM of M/s Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd. who had discussion with the Port Officials, Logistic Providers, CHAs and MLOs. The entire operation was carried out by the handling agents, M/s Cargolinks and CHA, M/s MAERSK. The exporters are fully satisfied over the performance of the Port and its infrastructure and they have indicated a monthly volume of 100 TEUs through NMPT.
Dr. P. Tamilvanan, Chairman has expressed his sincere thanks to M/s Gujarat Ambuja Exports Ltd. for preferring NMPT to route their export consignment. He has attributed the handling of this new cargo, hitherto moving through neighboring ports, to the pro-active marketing efforts initiated by the Port at various locations of the hinterland during the last few years coupled with the Infrastructure additions and the increase in frequency of container vessels for efficient handling of containers.
The container traffic has improved during the current financial year. As on date during 2012-13(as on date) 45,265 TEUs handled as against 43,278 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of previous year registering a growth rate of 4.59%. – Press Release
