Adyar residents oppose railway officials moves to close down railway crossing

trainMangalore : Residents of Adyar, Neermarga and surrounding areas resorted to a lightning protest on July 1, Monday morning when railway officials arrived at Adyar to close a railway crossing at the place. The officials had decided to close the crossing following Sunday’s mishap involving a mini bus and a goods train that claimed the life of a woman and injured five others including a child.

Adyar Rail accidentThe protestors urged that the railway crossing be made an authorized railway crossing as it is not listed among regular crossings of the railway. They also demanded appointment of a security guard to man the crossing.  Yet another demand was to have humps on the road here.

When villagers adopted an adamant stand and even blocked the Bangalore train for a few seconds, the Local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel arrived and  stopped the railway authorities from closing the crossing. He also assured an overbridge in the area and said a meeting will be convened at Circuit House on Monday to discuss the issue. As many as 500 people  participated in the protest.railway track
