Mangalore: the 3 in 1 god Sri Dattareya has his birthday on Monday today, a day allotted to go Shiva every week in costal Karnataka. The Datta Jayanthi is also observed at Bababudangiri in Chikkamagalur District at what is non as Datta Peetha in a cave where god Dattatreya’s wooden Sandals (Paduka) in the holy Pooja place thousands of data followers walk to the place in a hilly area in saffron ropes doing penance before they reach the caves, and shouting jai-jai kar slogans on reaching the caves and performing Pooja and other services to the holly feet of the 3-facec god today.
Dattatreya is suppose to live in Gangapur Kshetra in Bijapur Districts of Karnataka and faithful followers are set to receive his Dharshan past midnight in a park of Oudumbara tree which is his abode. Sri Datta is the son of Sathi Anasuya and her husband Arishi who had tested by Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara, who became their child with 3 heads in one as per holly records.
This morning there was a Pooja at the shrine of Sri Datta in Mangalore near Sri Uma Maheshwara temple on Ganapathy Temple Street. Hundreds of devotees in a chilly weather attended the morning Pooja and worshiped Sri Datta, before taking Teertha Prasadam by 8 am. Reguler Bhajans will be conducted at night on Monday and there will be a Grama- Santarpana on Tuesday at noon at the venue.
