Mangaluru : The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and the Bajrang Dal have accused the city police of being callous about initiating action against illegal cow-slaughter and transportation.
Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Kateel Dinesh Pai, the Pranta Goraksha Pramukh of VHP, said in spite of providing information about places where cows were being illegally slaughtered, the city police officials were reluctant to take any action.
“Today, we informed the police about 40 cows being stocked in a place at Kudroli. We informed about these cows being slaughtered. However, no action was taken,” Mr. Pai said, and added that the police had not initiated any action after being alerted on instances of similar nature in the last few days. “In turn, the police are helping perpetrators to move the cattle to other places,” he claimed. A few days ago, Police Commissioner S. Murugan issued a press note asking people to provide information about places where cows were being illegally slaughtered and transported.
Condemning the police of inaction, Mr. Pai said, the VHP and the Bajrang Dal activists would take upon themselves the task of protecting cows. “We are ready to pay any cost for this purpose,” he said.
District president of VHP, Jagadish Shenva said, slaughter of cows should be viewed as an act hurting sentiments of Hindus and such persons should be arrested for offence under Section 295 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Shenva said, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the district, which is headed by the Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat, should take note of slaughter of cows and action taken to prevent it. “This society not just to look into alleged cruelty to animals,” he said.
