Mangalore: Members of the Udupi division of LIC Agents Organization of India (LICOI) stage a dharna in front of the Head Post Office of Pandeshwar in Mangalore on December 22.
Comrade S Prasanna Kumar, state general secretary of CITU, inaugurated the protest and said the management of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India was creating inhospitable conditions for the LIC agents to function. The biggest blow for the LIC agents was the condition that they had to register 12 policy holders and collect a premium of Rs. 1 lakh every year.
This condition had hit the LIC agents in rural areas hard as it was difficult to collect a premium of Rs. 1 lakh. Besides, the senior LIC agents were hit by this condition. As a result of this condition, nearly 60,000 agents out of about 10 lakh in the country had lost their work.
Ramesh Kumar , state general secretary of LICAOI, said that, LIC agents are suffering problem due to the new rule implemented by the Central government, though it has made a huge profit to the government.
The sum of Rs 11.54 lakh crores money gained through the profit by LIC is with the central government. The central government is getting maximum profit from LIC but still the government has adopted the foreign company policy. They are taking huge amount of profit from Indian government by cheating them.
Besides, the management had created a watch list. If a policy holder expired within one year of registering a policy, the agent who registered the policy holder came under the watch list. This was another difficult condition. The LIC of India should give up the watch list policy.
L Manjunath, LICAOI, Sunil Kumar Bajal of CITU, Com Vasanth Achary, Com Sindhagi and Com Gurucharan Rao and others were present.
The protesters also organised a protest rally from CA branch to Head post office.
