2-day Tagore film festival inaugurated

Tagore film festivalManagalore : Sahamatha Film Society Mangalore and Samudaya Mangalore organized a 2-day Tagore film festival in the auditorium of the Shrinivas Institute of Management Studies in Pandeshwar on the occasion of Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary on Dec 25, Saturday.
As part of festival, four feature films based on Tagore’s “Charulatha,” was screened followed by the seminar. Whereas the other three films like “Ghare Baire,” “Kabuliwala,” and “Teen Kanya” will be shown on Dec 26, Sunday. Each screening will be followed by talks, discussions, and seminars by prominent scholars.
Tagore film festivalNadoja Dr Sara Abubakker, renowned litterateur inaugurated the event. She said that the small stories written by Tagore were given importance to the women. The stories written by him preached the values of humanity and in the present day people in general are losing the importance to humanities, hence it is necessary to screen the film based on Tagore for the people of all the ages.
Tagore film festivalRenowned theater artiste and thinker C Basavalingayya presided over the event and said that, In orer to commemorate the Tagore’s 100th birth anniversary, the Ravindra Kala Bhavan was establishes, but now the people have forgotten him completely.
Tagore film festivalThe films of the past gave importance to humanity and the culture, but now the films showcase the women in the less costume and destroy the country’s culture, he added.
Dr P S Aithal, principal of Srinivas Institute of Management Studies and Govind Belgaumkar of The Hindu daily were present.
