Mangaluru: The Praveen Poojary murder case was transferred from the Brahmavar police station to Hebri police station on Monday.
Activists belonging to right wing groups assaulted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member, Praveen Poojary (29), and another person Akshaya Devadiga (20), at Kenjur village near Hebri alleging that they were carrying cows to a slaughterhouse on the night of August 17. Praveen Poojary died of injuries at Mahesh Hospital in Brahmavar the same night. The police arrested 21 activists on the charge of assault, murder and rioting in the case.
Praveen Kumar R.N., Senior Assistant Public Prosecutor, told on Monday that the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate here had given permission for the transfer of the case from the Brahmavar police station to Hebri police station as the assault had taken place within the limits of Hebri police station. The case was initially registered at the Brahmavar police station in Udupi district, he said.
