Udupi: Private bus owners association of Udupi district has approached High Court (HC) seeking stay for the functioning of JNNURM buses, which started functioning from September 7.
Association argued that the JNNURM buses are charging Rs 5 as minimum fare and the city buses are charging Rs 7. So, the government buses also should increase the fare to Rs7. The appeal may appear for the hearing by next and if the court issues stay order, then the functioning of JNNURM buses will be stopped.
KSRTC officials are arguing that if the minimum fare is increased to Rs 7, then the conductors will fall short of coins to give change. Moreover, the charges are fixed by the state government for the JNNURM buses unlike other government buses.
Speaking about the issue district in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said that the attempt to create hurdle in the functioning of JNNURM buses will not be succeeded at any cost. Matter will be discussed with the concerned officers to overcome the problems in the service and to provide best service.
