Pramod MadhwarajUdupi: District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said consumers should be aware of their rights and raise their voice against the injustice when meted out.

At the World Consumer Day programme, recently, the minister said consumers should protest when they are betrayed by the manufacturers. The consumer has the right for quality product. Any faults found in the products or services, the consumers should protest and demand their rights as it is their right to avail quality products.

The consumer court will help consumers get justice when deceived. Awareness programmes must be organised for schoolchildren as they will help children to understand their rights as consumers. He also instructed to set up consumer clubs in all schools and colleges to create awareness on consumer rights.

Food and Civil Supplies deputy director Yogeshwar said the day is observed with a slogan—Alternative Redressal System for the early Disposal of Consumer Grievances. The Consumer Act has been formulated to save consumers against frauds. The public must avail the benefits of Consumer Act.

District Consumer Redressal Forum trustee A P Kodancha said the victim should immediately approach consumer court when deceived. If approached with valid documents, the Act will surely ensure justice to the consumers. Increasing purchasing behaviour among consumers has resulted in all quality products being sold out in the market.

Greedy manufacturers produce poor quality items for consumption and sell it at a higher price. Consumer court should ensure justice within short span of time. Various NGOs and organisations working for the right of the consumers should be supported by the government.
