Mangaluru: In the wake of support received for Jallikattu from around the country, the organisers of Kambala are planning to put pressure on the government to support the traditional sport to protect rural culture of Tulu Nadu as it has been banned by a court order last year.
More than 100 Kambala organisers are likely to hold a meeting to protest against the court order, government in Dakshina Kannada. A procession by more than 100 male buffaloes along with thousands of South Canara Kambala fans, people on the streets of Mangaluru city is being planned by the Kambala groups in Dakshina Kannada.
Kannada film actor Jaggesh on his twitter account supported the Kambala as it plays an important role in the life of the people in coastal Karnataka. He also asked to Kannda people to unite themselves and raise their voice against Kambala ban.
Meanwhile, the organisers of Kambala are eagerly awaiting for the High Court judgement on Kambala which is expected to be made on January 30. The organisers had appealed before the high court to cancel the ban on the traditional sport in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts which was banned after Petta PIL. Hearing the appeal from the organisers of Kambala the high court on Friday had adjourned the hearing to January 30 for further order.
Kambala organisers, people of South Canara strongly argue that Kambala doesn’t harms, violates the rights of the animals. Therefore the the government, court should take steps to conduct traditional sport in the state.
Kambala has shows a close relationship between animals and human. It is also a part of Tulu culture and it should move from generation to generation as it had been practiced for hundreds of years. However, Kambala has become a rare scene in Tulu Nadu nowadays. Only limited number of organisers conduct Kambala amid lack of support, its cost and others.
