While Mr. Damble was felicitated for his contribution to the field of education, Dr. Adhikari was honoured for her service to senior citizens.
The others who were felicitated are Yakshagana artiste T. Premalata Rao for service in the field of art, Vasudeva Rai (agriculture), Major (retired) Lohit, Adani Hentar (literature), K. Monappa Vitla (social service), Obbayya Moolya (sports), Mayila Kuttar (folk art) and K.G. Bangera (government service).
Minister in-charge of the district B. Ramanath Rai, who felicitated the recipients, said that it was the responsibility of youngsters to take care of elders. Youngsters should lend their ear to elders who tend to get depressed when neglected. The State government was committed towards fine-tuning services meant for senior citizens, he said.
There was delayed start to the function as Mr. Rai arrived late by 90 minutes. Mr. Rai said that a “pressing engagement” delayed his arrival. As officials waited for Mr. Rai, some senior citizens exhibited their singing and dancing talent to the audience.
