Mangaluru: BJP workers, who were returning after attending the fishermen convention in Malpe beach a group of Muslims stopped the bus in middle of the road resulted pelting stones at each other on Tuesday midnight.
Four persons were injured Window panes and doors of Mosque, a house of minority and majority community were damaged due to stone-pelting.
Police said that when the BJP workers were returning in five buses after attending the BJP chief Amit Shah convention, Four buses had passed the Kasaba Bengre, dominated by minority community peacefully. The last bus, stopped the bus in middle of the road. As a result the two groups got into an argument. Later, both sides started pelting stones at each other. During the incident Rahul, Lokesh, Vipin and Aamir have been injured. Police sub-inspector Povappa and other police personnel too were injured, said Hanumantharaya, DCP (Law and Order).
It is said party workers were shouting slogans which provoked minority community , the group of Kasaba Bengare objected to it.
However, the situation was calmed down with intervention of local leaders from both communities. The incident took place around 10.30pm. Due to tension, large number of people from both communities gathered on roads, said police.
Police added that once the group reached Thota Bengre, again tension prevailed with two groups again getting involved in violence after 2am. Window panes of Mosque and door of a newly built house was damaged by goons. Complaints from both sides were filed at Panambur police station.
Meanwhile, MLA JR Lobo has condemned the incident and said that fair investigation will be conducted against miscreants who tried to stir communal violence.
