Mangaluru : The City Traffic Police will act sternly against online food delivery personnel violating traffic rules in their pursuit to deliver the food quickly, said City Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil on Friday.
Before the action, the police would call the respective operational heads of the online food delivery platforms asking them to inform their personnel to obey the rules.
Mr. Patil was responding to a complaint during the weekly phone-in programme where the caller informed about the rash driving of delivery personnel on two-wheelers, at times violating traffic rules.
Friday’s phone-in again saw complaints pouring in against the spillage of waste water from vehicles transporting fish and the smell from vehicles transporting rotten fish.
Mr. Patil told reporters that the police would study the Kerala model where vehicles are prohibited from spilling waste water. In consultation with other departments concerned, the police will find a permanent solution and if need be an executive order would be issued, he said.
There were complaints about alteration to vehicle exhaust system, particularly on two-wheelers that generate an irritating noise. Mr. Patil said police had booked over 100 cases in the last couple of days and would continue strict action against such nuisance.
Another caller complained about random parking of vehicles on Fr. Muller Road between Fr. Muller Hospital and Valencia. The Commissioner said strict action would be taken with the help of towing vehicle.
A second towing vehicle has joined the police and soon another would come. With these, erratic parking should be curbed, Mr. Patil hoped. In all, 32 complaints were received during the day. Mr. Patil said 41 cases were booked against vehicles carrying construction material without covering them tarpaulin following complaints received last week. Deputy Commissioners of Police Hanumantharaya and Uma Prashanth, Assistant CPs M. Manjunath Shetty and Vinay Gaonkar, and others were present.
