Mangalore: Dakshina Kannada District Deputy Commissioner N.S Chennappa Gowda has asked a representative of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in a meeting called on Friday to meet monsoon drain water contingencies and to discuss prevention of accidents, to clean up the drainage water paths by June 10, before storm water enters them. The officials were sluggish and did not answer the DC confidently. Unless the storm water drains get cleaned up, overflowing waters could damage public property, DC warned.
Similarly officials of fisheries and fire, PWD and Telecom were directed to take precautionary steps, before accidents happen under nature’s fury. There is a toll-free district control room with phone number 1077 in case of emergencies, he indicated.
The DC asked the PWD to procure a wood-cutting machine to cut trees that may fall across roads or over houses due to winds, disrupting power supply. He asked MESCOM and telecom depts., to open control rooms.
The PWD officials were asked to co-ordinate with Forest Department officials under any eventualities.
Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma warned all the officials to be ready to meet at all times any emergency. MCC control rooms and toll-free numbers were given at the meeting for rescue acts.
The traffic should not be disrupted under monsoon fury, DC informed officials. A crane has been requisitioned by PWD from MRPL, to lift any fallen trees or vehicles on roads or in gorges.
