Vishnu Kamath ShevgoorMangalore : Vishnu Kamath Shevgoor popularly known as ‘Children’s teacher’ was born on June 16, 1951 to a Mangalore’s first commercial designer L Laxman Kamath Shevgoor and Laxmi Bai Shevgoor.  Shevgoor who hails from Urwa, started his career as an art teacher in the year 1967 in the name of Shevgoor Fine Arts in Carstreet after completing his 11th class in Canara High School Main and continued till 1972. Later for 29 years he worked as hand made commercial designer for almost all the press, after the death of his father and by self practice. On March 18, 2001, he closed it completely and again started teaching art at Om Chambers. He started his art class with one room and single student and improvement took place to four rooms and 100 students per day and altogether 220 students’ including vacation batches. His wife Bharathi Shevgoor and son Manjunath Shevgoor support him in his every interest. He has not shown any interest in participating for the art competition but just draw for his self satisfaction. His interest in music helped him to receive three prizes in his school days. Shevgoor has designed 15 drawing books for his students titled ‘Relax’, which teaches them every step of art and not sold in market. He teaches from basic to colour pencil, pencil shading, sketching, dot work, wash work, dual tone pictures, water colour and oil painting. He trains students to appear for the ‘Grade exam’ being conducted by government and around 42 students have appeared and passed out in first class and distinction.
