Mumbai: These are days of planes skidding, over-running and sticking in mud, getting diverted from one airport to another, if not crashing with broken wings and injured tails in monsoon fury.
97 passengers of a Turkish Airways flight TK-720 skidded out of taxi-way, during landing in Mumbai International Airport (MIA) at 4 AM in the dark down and had a providential escape out of disaster, on Friday, September 2.
The flight was from Istanbul (Turkey) to Mumbai (India) in rainy weather, said worried officials.
The plane got struck in the mud, as in another case in Kochi (Kerala) this weak earlier. The stoppage caused delays in arrivals, as planes coming in were diverted to a secondary runway.
Heavy rains hampered Visibility, even causing occasional closure of the main runway. An enquiry has been ordered by Air Authority.
An Air India flight from Jeddah with 260 persons had a miraculous escape at the same site on Wednesday (Aug 31).
