Mangalore: Speaking in a Kanakadasa memorial meeting, at which a book was released on Kanaka songs, writer Prof. Kalegowda Nagavara stated on Thursday after inauguration that Kanakadasa as a Dalit devotee of God fought for social justice in his writings and was a Pioneer demanding justice for social justice for all in Karnataka.
Several institutions organised this programme, such as Mangalore University. Kalegowda admitted that despite continuous social conflicts and reformations over 5,000 years in India, Casteism was still prevalent in various ways.Which he regretted.
Kudmul Ramgarao worked day and night for uplifting Dalit school children, mostly girls. He did so before Mahatma Gandhi arrived on the Scene. Several philosophers fought divisions in human society in history. The ideal they had, was commendable.
MU Vice-chancellor TCS Murthy presided on the occasion. The Kanaka devotional songs, first published in 1839 by Moegling, were re-published by P. Gururao and again on November 17, at Town Hall.
