Mangalore: The esteemed Pejwar Math Swami Vishwesha Tirtha (81) has declared on Friday that he would go on 3 days fast at the Padubidri temple to protest against removal of 2 experts chosen by him for a committee appointed to study the have created by Udupi Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL), while producing 250MW of power at Ellur.
T.B. Ramachandra and Y.B. Ramakrishna were taken off from the enquiry panel, presumably because Udupi minister, Dr.V.Acharya and recent Udupi MP and present CM, DV Sadananda Gowda went against them.
The Pejwar seer regarded the removal as “an insult” both to local (Udupi) people and the enquiry committee, as Dr.Acharya wanted no such enquiry, but only a second unit of UPCL to open up and function without impediments.
Swami Vishwesha was dissatisfied with CM’s explanation pointing a finger at Dr.V.Acharya for the affront. However, Swamiji fast may not curdle up or ignite mass protests, the way Anna Hazare got in his two fasting exercises at Jantar Mantar and Sri Ramleela grounds in Delhi in 2011, against national corruption.
