Mangalore: Manikantan from Tamilnadu lived with his family at Kairangala near Mudipu and was working hard, with dedication as a helper in a college, cleaner in a bus, and an attender in festivals or functions arranged by parties, to protect his mother, two elder sisters, and two younger brothers for many years, as a bachelor(30) and duty-bound person.
He has family, that lived in a rented house in Kairangala for some decades, as the sole bread-winner.
But early this week, Manikantan went to Hubli on a duty and was waiting for a bus to return home there, when a passing lorry carrying acid chemicals spilled some burning items on to his dress near the bus-stand, and he was injured partly in flesh and blood.
He had gone to Hubli with a close relative two weeks ago but on the destined day, he was physically ruined by the acid splash, from a speeding tanker lorry, while waiting for his bus to go back home.
He was in a Hubli hospital for 3 days, and was receiving medical treatment for bodily burns that affected even his kidney that failed in the process.
He was in Deralakatte hospital for 3 days, but could not recover, as body was partly burnt. He died due to Kidney failure on Friday, despite all medical help.
The family of Manikantan has been orphanised in the freak and ghastly accident, of an acid spill on his body causing burns on private parts, and his death in city, as he was their only bread-Winner and they are on the streets now.
A valuable life was lost in a rare case.
