Udupi cops arrest 8 thievesUdupi: Cops in Udupi have been successful in busting a dacoity case reported from Vadiraja Road in Udupi in the second week of July. They have arrested eight persons in connection with the case wherein thieves who had barged into the residence of one Surya Kumar Shet and had decamped with gold and silver worth several lakhs of rupees after gagging both Surya Kumar and his servant Ananth Poojari on July 13.

The police who had immediately swung into action, had launched a manhunt for the dacoits at several places in the district as well as in Bangalore and Hassan and have been finally able to zero in on them on July 25, Wednesday.

The arrested are Avinash Jogi (27), Sudarshan Poojary (30), Sachinraj (21), Yashwant Poojary alias Yahoo (25) of Bantwal; Nitin Kumar (22) and Navaneet (21) of Ammady, Bantwal; Nitin Bangera (28) of Chilimbi, Mangalore; and Achyuta Acharya (30) of Beluvai.

Among the valuables recovered from them include a diamond studded gold ring, and several other ornaments worth Rs 8 lakhs. Some more stolen valuables are yet to be recovered. All the eight have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

SP Borelingaiah has announced a reward of Rs 10,000 to the police team which was part of the operations.
