Mangalore: A two-day national seminar on Waste Management and Alternate Energy Sources’ organised by the Department of Zoology, St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangalore, was inaugurated on December 10, Monday.
VV Bhat, Secretary to Government of India and member of Finance of Atomic Energy Commission has emphasized the need to minimize the use and throw attitude of the society and added the waste management problem should be addressed at the source itself by minimizing packaging of goods in plastic. He also said that companies should refrain from manufacturing plastics which are not easily degradable. He further said effective waste management was also affected due to lack of uniformity in classification of wastes.
Fr Swebert D Silva, Principal of Aloysius College, who presided over the function, said waste management would be easily for the authorities when each and every citizen realizes his responsibility.
A Book on Abstracts, was released by Dr A Narahari, Registrar of St Aloysius College.
Prof. Precilla D’Silva and Prof. Hemachandra, Co-ordinators of the seminar, Dr Ronald Pinto, Vice Principal of the College and others were present.
