Mangalore: D.K. Shivakumar, sent by Rahul Gandhi to Mangalore to promote youth and student leadership held a press meet at the DKPCC office in Hampankatta today afternoon.
He told Congressmen and pressmen present at the meeting that national leaders wanted youth to take over leadership in the near future to create strong bonds with the people. Last week, Rahul Gandhi had come to Kasaragod and flood affected areas in Kerala and other 3 South Indian states, discussed several problems of present day youth to lead them into a young political future. There was a large scope for youth from GPs upto legislatures in the national democracy today.
The stage for representation of people begins at the college levels with students’ union leadership and responsibilities. In every College a unit of NSUI (congress) will be formed. Members will given Voter ID card and passes. This is how they will grow to international standards of work and leadership, DKS said.
Colleges are prohibited to hold elections now. But it was wrong to prevent elections, as leadership! grows out of elections. Rahul Gandhi has allotted work to us in the Congress organisation to go about promoting leaders to sustain democracy, DKS said.
Party alone is not important, but national leadership through a party is the need, Rahul has suggested. He would not overthrown an elected govt. DKS added.
UT Khader, MLA, Raj John, Ivan D’Souza, Ms Mamatha Gatti, Kallige Taranath Shetty, T.K. Sudheer among others attended the DKS press gathering.
