Kundapur : Vijayavani Kannada daily’s Udupi reporter Sripathi Hegde Hakladi was attacked by three miscreants on the night of February 2, Saturday when he was on his way home to Haklady in his two-wheeler.
Reports said the three persons intercepted Sripathi, abused and attacked him and also threatened his life. Two of the assailants have been identified as Adikekodlu Udaykumar Shetty, vice-president of Vandse gram panchayat and Thotebailu Santhosh Shetty.
It is said the trio attacked Sripathy out of personal enmity as he had exposed their misdeeds in his reports. Sripathi’s report had said that Udaykumar Shetty had resorted to irregularities in the elections to GP chief’s post and this had forced the DC to personally supervise the conduct of elections. Even the misdeeds of the other accused while he served as Hattiangady GP chief had been exposed by Sripathi in his report.
The journalist however during the attack was successful in escaping from the assailants. He has suffered minor injuries.
The incident has been strongly condemned by the Kundapur Taluk Journalists Assocation it has demanded that the assailants be arrested and brought to justice.
