Masterplan for development of M.M.Hills: CM Bommai

Chamarajanagar : Instructions are issued to prepare a masterplan to provide facilities for the overall development of Male Mahadeshwara Hills, said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

After chairing the meeting of Male Mahadeshwara Development Authority here on Tuesday, he told reporters the number of devotees visiting this shrine has increased and around 10,000 to 20,000 people visit daily, and the number will be more on Amavasya and Hunnime and weekends. Six jathras are held in which lakhs of people congregate. The total area is 159 acres of which 70 acre of land is unutilised. It is being examined what to do after removal of the temporary sheds constructed on 70 acres of land. The 70 acre of land originally belonged to the temple for which a master plan will be prepared for planned development. Since the number of economically weaker section people is more, dormitories need to be constructed so that around 5,000 people can stay at one time.

Statue unveiling

The statue of Male Mahdeshwara is ready and it will be unveiled next month. Instructions are given to complete all the ongoing works within the stipulated period.

Rs 100 crore for connecting roads

The CM said UGD is very important in this area and it must be completed on priority. A sum of Rs 100 crore will be released to construct roads on both sides of M M Hills and the shrine. The target before the government is the planned development of M M Hills and to provide all facilities to devotees. Approval was given for the construction of the shelter for the devotees who stand in the queue to have the darshan of the deity, drinking water and other facilities.

Project Tiger

He said the project tiger proposal was before the State Wildlife Board and no decision has been taken yet. Doubts have been expressed about the possible problems to human habitation consequent to sanctioning of Project Tiger.’

No change in State’s stand on border row

Bommai said he will be leaving for New Delhi tomorrow (Wednesday) for a discussion on border row. In-charge Minister of Belagavi district, Advocate General and Home Minister will be present. All developments since re-organisation of states and other details on the borders will be effectively presented before Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The stand of Karnataka will be defended in tomorrow’s meeting.

Housing Minister V.Somanna, Revenue Minister R.Ashok, deputy commissioner and others were present in the meeting.
