MLA U T Khader condemned 18-year-old Masood’s death

Mangaluru: An 18-year-old youth, who was brutally assaulted by a gang of eight persons, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in the city on Thursday.

The victim Masood, 18, a native of Kasargod was residing at his grandfather’s house at Kalanja, Sullia for nearly a month now.

He was allegedly assaulted by Abhilash, Sunil, Sudhir, Shiva, Ranjith, Sadashiva, Jim Ranjith and Bhaskar, at Kalanja village in Bellare police station limits in Sullia taluk on Tuesday night.

All the accused have been arrested, and have been remanded in judicial custody. The victim, who was found in an unconscious state, was rushed to a hospital in the city, and was being treated in the ICU. Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said that the accused assaulted Masood over a trivial issue that took place over a month ago at Kalanja village. Masood is a resident of Mogral Puttur in Kasaragod district, but was staying with his grandmother in Kalanja, and was working as a labourer. The accused have been booked under various IPC sections.

People gathered in large numbers in front of the hospital, after hearing the news of Masood’s death. They demanded that the deputy commissioner visit the spot, and give an assurance over compensation to the kin of the victim.

MLA U T Khader visited the spot, and condemned the incident. He urged the chief minister and home minister to provide maximum compensation to the family of the deceased.
