Mangalore: A new air traffic control tower and a technical block within Bajpe airport (MIA) surroundings have been sanctioned by Airports Authority of India. This will enhance safety and security at Kenjaru-Bajpe airport complex.
An amount of Rs 18 crores is released for the project, said Vasudeva Rao, Manager here.
The Foundation stone will be laid on Monday, April 22 for the project. The new building is behind the fire station of the airport. The tender process is in progress, he said.
The technical block will have systems of exchanging information with the pilot during a plane landing or its take off. The pilot will get all details about the airport (table-top, runway length and environment at the moment.
In an emergency or due to technical snags, concerned departments get the formation from technical staff.
The airport now handles 30 to 40 flights a day. It will be formally declared as an international airport soon, thus increasing the number of flights.
