Mangaluru : PM Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for various development works worth Rs 3,600 crore to Rs 4,500 crore, at the New Mangalore Port on September 2, said Dakshina Kannada district minister V Sunil Kumar.
He said that preparations are on to hold a mass convention of over a lakh beneficiaries of various government schemes, at the Goldfinch City ground, Kuloor.
The minister chaired a preparatory meeting on Thursday, and directed officials to take up all necessary measures, to make the programme successful. After laying the foundation stone for various development works at the New Mangalore Port, the Prime Minister will address a gathering at Goldfinch City grounds.
He said that officials of various departments have been asked to prepare lists of government scheme beneficiaries, and arrange transportation to bring them to the programme. Since the Prime Minister will be arriving at the programme venue at 4pm, officials should ensure that scheme beneficiaries and the public should be seated in the auditorium well in advance, he said.
Elaborate security arrangements will be in place, and hence people should reach the venue in advance. Lunch will be arranged for all at the venue.
Officials, who have been given various responsibilities related to the Prime Minister’s visit, have been directed not to hand over their prescribed jobs to their colleagues or others, he said.
Kumar also expressed hopes that the Prime Minister would announce more development packages for Dakshina Kannada district.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that lakhs of people in the district have received benefits of various central government sponsored schemes. Government departments should take up initiatives to identify those beneficiaries, and invite them for the Prime Minister’s programme, he said.
Deputy commissioner K V Rajendra said that it is the responsibility of every single official, to ensure that all protocols are followed during the visit of the Prime Minister. Mangaluru city police commissioner N Shashi Kumar requested people to reach the programme venue at least one hour prior to schedule. Detailed information regarding parking and traffic arrangements will be shared soon, he said.
