Mangalore : Police arrested a person Jainpete in connection with the murder of Sanjeeva Poojary on May 1, Thursday.
The arrested has been identified as Jawahar from Chhattisgarh, who was seen roaming in town arousing suspicion among the Moodbidri police.
It is learnt that, Sanjeeva Poojary (70), who had taken a cow for grazing in the morning was found killed at Nooyi Darkas on April 30, Wednesday, but when he was not returning home for lunch, his son-in-law went searching and found him dead.
Jawahar, involved in borewell work from two days in the vicinity was mentally unstable. He also said to have attacked fisherman Sulaiman’s wife Bi Fathima with a rod and escaped after entering their house on Wednesday April 30.
After the incident, Jawahar came across Sanjeeva Poojary at Nooyi Darkas and asked for some water from Sanjeeva’s water bottle, but when he refused to give it, Jawahar assaulted and killed Poojary.
The police arrested Jawahar, who was spotted wandering in the surrounding areas of Mahaveera College with a bottle of water in his hand.
Panambur ACP Ravikumar, Moodbidri circle inspector Vishwanath, SI Ramesh Kumar visited the spot and investigated.
