Sand labour jumps into the river to escape from police, found dead

Bantwal sand Bantwal: A sand labour died after he jumped into the river to escape from the clutches of the police, who were raiding against the illegal sand mining, on Wednesday at Mullarapatna.

The deceased has been identified as Shareef (30).

Bantwal rural police had raided the illegal sand mining area at Margadangadi, Mullarapatna upon receiving an accurate tip off. Shareef saw the police who were raiding the area and jumped into the Netravati river to escape from the spot, since then he went missing.

Bantwal sand Locals and fire service personnel searched for him throughout the area and found his dead body in the river.

Tensed situation has been created at the spot and the locals are saying that the body will not be lifted till DC Jagadeesh arrives. Locals have also damaged the police vehicle parked near the area.

Superintendant of Police Bhushan G Borase visited the spot and additional security has been arranged.
