Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada district administration on Thursday enforced a blanket ban on sinking of borewells for purposes other than drinking water by local bodies in view of acute water shortage in the district.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate A.B. Ibrahim, who passed a magisterial order, said that the administration has already banned lifting of water from water bodies for other than drinking purposes. This ban would be in force till June 6, he said.
Mr. Ibrahim said that the ban on sinking borewells is being enforced following drastic depletion in groundwater level thereby affecting supply of drinking water to the people.
