Mangalore : A BJP leader on Friday regretted that India has become an irresponsible, loud talking, corrupt and intolerant nation. Value-added education incorporating Indian ethos should be imparted, said MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik.
Inaugurating the one-day seminar on “effects of privatisation of management education in 21st century,” organised by SDM College of Business Management PG Graduate Centre for Management Studies and Research here, he said that education has become a commercial activity today.
Most of the private institutions provide education with better facilities and hence they are expensive. Still, a student in any institution can be successful provided he/she has skills and industry knowledge, he said.
Today, majority of management students prefer jobs in HR and finance than marketing. Students don’t want marketing field as the job is more challenging and one has to toil in the field. This shows that students opt for comfortable jobs than taking up challenges. It is marketing field that generates revenue for a company, he said.
“Education is all about enlightenment. Along with education one needs to be sensitised towards social life,” he said. He asked every student to question as to “how skilled they are?” and work towards upgrading his/her skills.
Mangalore Management Association President T G Shenoy said that management education is important for the optimal use of resources. Ever since liberalisation, management education has shot into prominence. Privatisation implies that student is a consumer and an education institution is a product, he said.
He stressed that every management institution should produce Management professionals and not mere MBAs.
PA College Department of Business Administration Director Dr A Abdul Rahiman said that there was a time when management was the most sought after course as all students wanted to pursue it as a career. However, now the scenario has changed, he added.
The seminar had sessions on topics such as “Management education in India- Its challenges,” “Need for privatisation of management education” and “Impact of privatisation of management education – its future.”-DH News
