Mangalore: Technology is like a double-edged sword. It is useful, it can also be dangerous if it is misused, opined Mangalore University Studies in Computer Science Professor and Chairperson Dr. H L Shashirekha.
Participating as a resource person in seminar on “Cyber Crime and Cyber Security Awareness” as a part of “Cyber Jaagruthi Diwas” celebration, organised by Department of Computer Science and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of University College Mangalore at Dr. Shivarama Karantha Sahabhavana here on Tuesday, warned about increasing cybercrime. In her presidential address, Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai said that cybercrime is a man-made disaster.
The key intention of the programme is to prevent cybercrime by generating sustained awareness among the public on cyber hygiene. The Minister of Home Affairs also initiated Indian Cyber Crime coordination Centre with the objective to strengthen and improve the coordination with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs). It has also launched the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) to facilitate online reporting of cybercrime incidents.
