Village accountant gets 4 years jail in corruption case

Mangaluru : Third additional district and sessions court judge BB Jakati sentenced a Village accountant (VA) to four years of simple imprisonment, and imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on him, after convicting him in a corruption case.

The convict S Mahesh, VA of Mandekolu GP in Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada, was caught red-handed while receiving a bribe of Rs 45,000 on June 7, 2016. He had demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 from Gopalakrishna, to clear an Akarama- Sakrama application. ACB sleuths had booked Mahesh under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
