Mangalore : The 7th working women state convention was held at Bolar on October 15, Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hemalatha, the convener of the Working Women Coordination Committee said that, in spite of having the Equal Remuneration Act of 1976, women are paid comparably lesser than men in several workplaces.
She also said that in several cases, men resent it when women are paid equal salary, she added.
She urged the women to fight for their rights at the workplace, and fight against the sexual harassment and sexual favours demanded in return for promotion or employment
Regarding the difficulties of women required to work in late night shifts, she said that, according to the law women are required to work only till 8:00 p.m., but are made to work beyond that time and are not provided any transportation facilities.
She also said that the CITU has decided to form sub committees in various workplaces
